As of 6 a.m., approximately 10,000 customers were still without power, with the majority of affected areas located on the Avalon Peninsula. Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro reported a smaller number of outages in the central region.

But here's where it gets controversial: the storm's impact on Port aux Basques was particularly severe, with high winds and snow causing significant damage. Hydro crews faced a broken cross arm, a critical support structure atop a utility pole, which delayed restoration efforts for several hours due to the harsh weather conditions.

And this is the part most people miss: the wind gusts reached astonishing speeds, with St. John's recording 140 km/hr, and even higher numbers in areas like Bonavista, Old Perlican, Cape Pine, and Grates Cove. Sagona Island, located in Fortune Bay, broke records with a top gust of 165 km/hr, an all-time high.

The utility companies are working around the clock to get everyone back online, but it's a complex and challenging task.
