The UAE's Dilemma: A Potential Military Response to Iranian Aggression
In a dramatic turn of events, the United Arab Emirates is contemplating a bold move to defend itself against Iranian missile and drone attacks. This development is a game-changer, as it could escalate an already tense situation into a full-blown regional war.
Why is this significant? Well, an Emirati strike on Iran would be an extraordinary step, one that reflects the deep frustration and anger felt across the Gulf region. The UAE, more than any other country, has borne the brunt of Iranian attacks since the war began, even surpassing the number of attacks on Israel.
"The UAE is evaluating its options for active defense," a source close to Emirati policy discussions revealed. "With over 800 projectiles endured, it's time to consider our defensive strategies."

On the first two days of the war, Iran launched attacks on multiple Gulf countries, including the UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, and Saudi Arabia. These attacks had severe consequences, leading Qatar to suspend natural gas production and resulting in an Iranian drone strike on the U.S. embassy in Riyadh.
The situation escalated further with debris from intercepted missiles causing fires at Jebel Ali Port and a drone strike on a luxury hotel in Dubai's Palm Jumeirah.
Israeli officials speculate that Saudi Arabia might join the UAE in taking military action against Iran, adding another layer of complexity to an already volatile situation.
Anwar Gargash, a foreign policy advisor to the UAE president, expressed his views on X, stating that Iran's attacks were a miscalculation that has isolated the country at a critical time. He emphasized that Iran's actions only reinforce the perception of it being the primary threat in the region, with its missile program being a constant source of instability.
The Emirati defense ministry provided a detailed account of the attacks, stating that Iran launched 186 ballistic missiles at the UAE, with only one landing on Emirati territory. Additionally, 812 drones were detected, with 57 making impact within the country, resulting in the loss of three foreign nationals and around 70 wounded.
"The UAE reserves the right to respond and protect its territory, citizens, and residents," the defense ministry declared.
This crisis has transformed into a sweeping regional conflict, dragging in countries that had no desire to be involved. Since the U.S.-Israel bombing campaign began, Iran has targeted U.S. bases and other locations in various Gulf countries, including the Kurdish region of Iraq.
President Trump has stated that Operation Epic Fury is expected to last four to five weeks, leaving room for further expansion of the conflict. With this in mind, the potential for a wider war in the region is a very real concern.
