KDF Civilian Jobs Open: Apply for Gardener & Cleaner Positions in Kenya Defence Forces (2026)

KDF Civilian Staff Positions: Defence Ministry Opens Applications

The Ministry of Defence is seeking applications from Kenyan citizens for various civilian staff positions within the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF). The vacancies include 30+ gardener assistants and 15 sanitary cleaner roles.

In a recent announcement, the ministry emphasized that candidates will be hired on permanent and pensionable terms, encouraging applications from all Kenyans. The application process involves completing a PSC2 form and submitting it, along with relevant certificates, to the principal secretary at the Ministry of Defence Office by January 20, 2026.

KDF assures fair consideration of all applicants, regardless of background, and warns against unlawful attempts to secure a position. The application is free of charge, and the public is advised to report any money solicitation. Candidates must be Kenyan citizens with a valid national identity card and a minimum KCSE D plain qualification.

Gardener assistants will receive a basic salary ranging from Ksh19,000 to Ksh24,000, along with a house allowance, commuter allowance, and leave allowance. Sanitary cleaners will earn a basic salary between Ksh18,000 and Ksh22,000 with similar allowances. These positions offer permanent and pensionable contracts.

Civilian roles within KDF provide an alternative to military service, allowing individuals to support operations without extensive training. The Ministry of Defence manages these positions, and they offer distinct functions from those of uniformed personnel. The recently launched Career Progression Guidelines (CPGs) aim to ensure structural growth and promotions for civilian staff.

This announcement follows other civilian vacancies announced by the ministry, including artisan, clerical, and professional roles. The Public Service Commission also recently advertised over 800 jobs, further highlighting the diverse opportunities available within the public sector.
